Why is Maintaining a Healthy Weight Important?
Why is maintaining a healthy weight important?
Weight control is an important concern for adolescents and adults for reasons like health and physical appearance. Although weight control may decrease the risk of chronic diseases in adulthood, it can lead to unhealthy weight-loss practices and the development of an eating disorder.
Maintaining a healthy weight can be hard and difficult. Mary Serdula had a study on high school students and adults 18 years and older. In the study, about 44% of high school female students and 15% of male students reported that they were trying to lose weight. An additional 25% of female students and 15% of male students reported that they were trying to maintain their weight. The study found that weight control can decrease the risk of chronic diseases but it can lead to unhealthy weight loss and an eating disorder if it is not done properly and naturally.
